Off Roading
The sand dunes near San Luis Obispo, along the coast in Pismo Beach and Oceano, are considered the most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California. Site of the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ten Commandments, home to the rare and endangered Snowy Plover, and home to the one-time utopian community called the Dunites—the dunes are most well-known for the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA).
The Oceano Dunes SVRA is the only beach in California that offers off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation, attracting off-roaders and ATV-riders from all over the state. With 5 ½ miles of coastline open for vehicle use, OHV, ATV, and quad recreation, the Oceano Dunes are pure paradise for ATV-enthusiasts. Nature-lovers and beach-goers alike can join in the outdoor activities available at Oceano Dunes, featuring kite surfing, boogie boarding, nature walks, surfing and more.
Bring or rent an ATV, quad or four-wheel off-highway vehicle in Pismo Beach and ride Oceano’s miles of beaches and dune trails. Find more details about the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area and ATV rentals below.
