Bob Jones Bike Trail
If you’re looking for a good way to celebrate Bike Month in San Luis Obispo, look no further than the Bob Jones Trail. The Bob Jones Trail is a delightful, paved 3-mile bike and walking trail that begins on Ontario Road, paralleling Highway 101, and finishes in Avila Beach.
You can access the Bob Jones Trail by driving to the trailhead with your bikes on a rack or riding from town. If you’re starting your ride in Downtown San Luis Obispo, head south on Higuera Street. As you meander through the countryside, remember to stay on Higuera until you find the trailhead, located at the Park & Ride lot off of Ontario Road. Perfect for all levels of riders, the Bob Jones Trail is an enjoyable and smooth cruise with trail benches sprinkled throughout to rest at.
On a beautiful SLO Sunday, a few friends and I decided to head out to Avila on our bikes. We chose to take the Bob Jones Trail because it is a low-key ride, perfect for any afternoon. The trail weaves alongside San Luis Obispo Creek, wandering behind Avila Valley Barn. If you want to take a pit stop for food, wine or snacks, your crew can enjoy a bite at the Woodstone Market & Deli. While riding along, you might hear the sounds of frogs and flowing water, depending on the time of year.
After making it to beautiful Avila Beach, we locked up our bikes and jumped in the ocean for a quick cool down. Then, we headed over to Mr. Rick’s, a lively beachfront bar where we enjoyed ocean views and played some pool before packing up and heading back to SLO.
